Businesses Mocked by the Glynn County Board of Commsioners

“Say it ain’t so, say it ain’t so” cried Glynn County Commissioner Tony Thaw, when given the floor to address the citizens and businesses of Glynn County Georgia. This was an attempt to show outrage and to mock local press releases issued by an Automobile Dealer for calling the commission out on passing an unconstitutional law restricting the number of US Flags that can be flown in Glynn County, which he spearheaded.
He was not the only commissioner that took the opportunity to denigrate freedoms insured by the Constitution of the United States but appeared to be the most vocal. Not only did he take the time to mock the auto dealer he also sharply criticized the local newspaper for issuing the story and how they handled the release of this information to the public. After calling out the local daily paper he took the opportunity to advertise for another lesser known local paper from his podium on the County Commission.
The Glynn County Commissioners bantered for quite some time on the issue of businesses being issued tickets for flying more than one US Flag and did not hold back any jabs that they could take at the most vocal over the situation. While many of the comments that were made appeared to be self serving one of the most comical was that business were using this opportunity to attract publicity and they, the County Commission, were concerned over it hurting new business prospects from entering the community.
As one who has had to deal with the Glynn County Code Enforcement Division in the past while opening a business in Glynn County it does look like they have never made a positive impact to help businesses thrive there. I too was ticketed in November of 2001 for flying a temporary banner on my business while waiting for a sign to be built.
It looks like the commission will take the steps to change the current law however as of this posting it has not happened. The commissioners took this situation and used it as a way to further polarize the community, by their almost slanderous statements, and to push their own political, commercial and personal interest by harboring an us against them posture.
The message they were sending is clear to current and future businesses that choose Glynn County Georgia. To cross the path of the County Commission is to open yourself up to ridicule in their forum

I think since we area nation at war that we need all the patriotism that we can garner. If small governments had to do what we small business people had to do to keep afloat they might think differently about nitpicking us and leave us the hell alone!! We have enough problems to deal with. We have the same mindset In Roswell Ga. The problem is the power they have is often abused.

I received notice today that the Glynn Count Commission will not be changing the ordinance. This fact is really amazing considering how big a role the automotive industry plays in our community. Seeing how the commission took every opportunity possible to denigrate the dealers which makes the port possible.
